The Israel Heritage Foundation expresses its shock that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined 66 fellow Democrats, including the antisemitic members of the Squad, in voting against the resolution by Representative Claudia Tenney to
“prohibit funds to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel out of Jerusalem”. The resolution passed by a strong bipartisan vote of 360-67. However, this is a drop in support of having the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem among the House Democrats as the original legislation in 1995 passed by a 374-37 vote. Further, it indicates that approximately one out of every three Democrats opposed this resolution while no Republicans voted against this Resolution.
The dangerous rise of this opposition to the Embassy in Jerusalem among House Democrats is concerning but what is more troublesome is the vote of the former Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Her opposition to what should have been a non controversial Amendment indicates an infestation into the leadership of the House Democrats of opposition to Jewish sovereignty over Jerusalem.
Jerusalem first became the capital of the Jewish people and a Jewish state over 3,000 years ago by King David. The Jewish people are the indigenous people to the land. Further, under the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995, which is U.S. law, the U.S. Embassy must remain in Jerusalem and be recognized as the capital of Israel. Accordingly, all those who voted against this Resolution were voting against U.S. law.
The Israel Heritage Foundation Vice President Rabbi Dr. Joe Frager led a trip to Israel with among others, Representative Tenney four years ago. We support Representative Tenney’s efforts to have Congress on record in supporting the U.S. keeping its Embassy in Jerusalem. We thank Representative Tenney for her leadership in this matter.
